Bible Text: 2 Peter 2:1-9 | Steve LaLone
The beauty, love and justice of our mighty God and creator was disclosed in a very clear message. The sermon began with a picture of 2 women, there are clothes on the clothesline and one woman says to other, I use all the latest technology, wind power and solar power. The second slide is a cordless drill, but it was hand powered, not battery powered. The third was a man filling a clothes basket with water, saying, "I will trust the government as soon as I fill this bucket." No explanation was given to the message of these slides. My take away was that I should be what I say I am. Not to give false representation. If I tell you I am using wind and solar, I might not be lying, but I am giving misrepresentation of the truth of my clothesline.
Pastor LaLone referred back to the old testament and the promises (both for good and for bad) to the Israelites, the Canaanites and humanity. The message was clear. We have the Word of God. We know what the consequences of Godly behavior will be, and what the consequences of sinful behavior will be. God is loving and long suffering, but God is also just.
What kind of God do you want? My mind went to the C S Lewis novel, Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, when Mr. Beaver says, "Safe?" said Mr. Beaver; "Don't you hear what Mrs. Beaver tells you? Who said anything about safe? 'Course He isn't safe. But He is good. He is the King I tell you."
