The Advent is a special time of year, as we light each candle, we are taught once again about Hope, Love, Joy and Peace. But are they no truly all the manifestation of God’s love?
At times “getting to the joy” takes work. In Nehemiah 8 we see they have joy but… only after working hard to build the wall and now working hard to guard and protect the wall. But, Nehemiah said, “…Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” Paul tells us in Hebrews that Jesus, “for the joy set before him, he endured the cross.” Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” Jesus could endure the cross because he trusted in his father Jehovah! And James says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” And why? Because those problems make you into the kind of person God wants you to be. This joy is a tricking thing, so hold onto it but trusting God.
