Bible Text: Acts 2:1-13 | Dale Freed
The sermon begins with "welcome on this Pentecost Sunday."
Pastor Freed began by sharing the story of John the Baptist - his parents & how the Holy Spirit worked in their lives. He summed up John's message in these words, "the messiah is coming, get ready. I will baptize you with water but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." Luke 1:57
Next Pastor connected the giving of the Levitical Law, Passover and Pentecost.
Pentecost was a celebration of three things: 1 the first fruits of the harvest-the Barley Harvest (Jesus was the first fruit of rescurrection). 2. A celebration of the giving of the law. (Jesus fulfilled the law) 3. Mattan - the Jewish culture has a tradition of the groom giving a gift to his betrothed to give evidence, "Here is evidence I will come back for you." (Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit as a promise "I will come back for you")
The finish was a challenge to all of us to be "all in" as immersed in the waters of baptism and to take Him into us, as in communion, so he can change us from the inside out.
