John the Baptist appears on the scene after 400 years of prophetic silence. His message? Repent: the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Repent means, turn around and go the other direction because you have a heavy heart. True grief over your sin. An amazing & interesting thing, the crowds ask, “what must we do” and John responds with ‘care about others’ ‘change how you treat others,’ share food, share clothes, etc. Think about this, you have hurt others. John’s core message had two points, “I’m not the one you’re looking for” and “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Ask yourself, are you near the kingdom? Are you ready and willing to do what you need to do?
