Bible Text: 1 Samuel 18:1-16 |

Series:

Israel demanded the prophet Samuel give them a king in order to be like the other nations, 1 Samuel 8:19-20. Saul was their first king, a war-chief, who led people in victory on the battlefield. But, when Saul was being overshadowed by David in war victories, 1 Samuel 18:7, Saul became jealous and envious. Saul was so envious he was determined to kill David. If we cannot enjoy the successes of others, that’s a warning. Don’t compare. Focus on what you have, not what you don’t have. Overcome clutching jealousy and resentful envy with thanks. “Be content with what God sent.”
