God had been preparing Elijah for 3 1/2 years for the showdown on Mount Carmel with the false prophets of Baal. Elijah's faith and confidence in God was solid, but that relationship was put to the test. It wasn't just Elijah and the prophets of Baal who were tested, the people of Israel also had to choose.
After the dramatic showdown, and Elijah called down fire from heaven, the false prophets of Baal were all killed. Yet, in spite of this victory, Elijah lost his spiritual footing when Queen Jezebel vowed to take his life. Evil never rests. we must renew our walk with God and keep if fresh every day.
