Dorcas-Eve Circle

The Name: The Dorcas-Eve Circle is a serving ministry. The name and theme come from a woman in the Bible named Dorcas who was always doing good and making clothes for widows and the poor (Acts 9:36-42). Specifically, she made the all important outer coat or cloak that protected people from the weather and kept them warm while they slept.  Dorcas lived  out the heart of God for the poor. Interestingly, after she died, God, through Peter, raised her back to life. Her ministry of doing good and helping lives on in the church.

Service: Some of our accomplishments over the years have been: the purchase of dishes and silverware for the kitchen and appliances, cushions for the pews, carpeting in Sanctuary and Sunday school rooms, and a new flag. We have helped some children go to summer camp, helped purchase hearing aids for a lady, taken part in Angel Tree, Samaritan’s Purse, Joni & Friends, and War Chest (a charity to support women caught up in human trafficking).

History: Our church has had ladies circle’s since the 1950’s, some names for the circles were Ladies Aid or Westminster Guide and somewhere around the 1970’s our ladies took the name Dorcas Circle. The Eve Circle began in 2008. The two groups joined in April 2011 and took the name Dorcas Eve Circle. They meet the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 2 pm and the ladies in the circle take turns hosting the meetings. Our mission statement is Hebrew 10:24-25 “Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together but encouraging one another.” Our major fundraiser has been our Rummage Sale each year in June, but we have hosted bake sales, made and sold rag rugs, and made and sold quilts in past years.

Welcome: If you are interested in joining the Dorcas Eve Circle, we would love to have you. Please feel free to come to a meeting (second Wednesday each month) or call the church office (231-829-3833) for information.
