January 27, 2019: “God Will Provide”

Summary: God spoke to Abraham and made a covenant promise, a solemn oath, to bless him with countless descendants and that through Abraham the whole world would be blessed.  About 23 years later Abraham and Sarah had their first son, Isaac.  Some years later God tested Abraham by asking him to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering, totally consumed!  With incredible faith, and a fear of God, Abraham passed the test, and God provided for them.

Scripture: Genesis 15:1-6, 22:1-14

Sermon Length: 17:14

January 20, 2019: “A Clash of World Views”

Summary: The story of Noah and the ark is a true, historic, account of God’s judgement.  There is evidence that the world was judged by a global flood.  The reason Noah was spared was his holy fear of God, Hebrews 11:7a.  He paid close and reverent attention to God’s instructions.  If your worldview is in conflict with God’s view, yield, and follow God.

Scripture: Genesis 6:9-22, 9:8-17

Sermon Length: 28:53

January 13, 2019: “Who Call the Shots?”

Summary: How did the universe come into existence?  One view says God spoke the world into existence, Hebrews 11:3.  A second major view, which leaves God out, says life evolved after a “Big Bang” explosion, of largely hydrogen gas, about 13.8 billion years ago.  God reveals Himself to us through His creation, Psalm 19:1-4a, but some people still reject Him, Romans 1:18-23.  Rejecting God started with Adam and Eve.  Satan tempted them to question God’s clear instructions, Genesis 3:1, and people have been questioning God ever since.  Do you and I let God call the shots in our life?

Scripture: Genesis 2: 15-25

Sermon Length: 35:58

January 6, 2019: “Who Am I?”

Summary: The worldview of the Bible tells us God patterned people after Himself, in His image.  We are given author to steward the earth.  We have the ability to live in a loving relationship with God and others.  We’re unique from animals in reasoning, language, morality, loving relationships and creativity.  Humans have unique value and dignity. May we live out this worldview as a steward of all God has entrusted to us, and may we treat everyone with respect as an infinitely valuable image bearer of God.

Scripture: Genesis 2: 15-25

Sermon Length: 28:11

December 30, 2018: “In the Beginning God Created”

Summary: Your worldview is the framework you use to understand, interpret and make sense of your world.  You use your worldview to answer the big questions of life.  There are two primary views of how our world and universe got started.  One view is that God did it (Genesis 1:1), the other view, which leaves God out, is evolution starting from a “Big Bang” explosion 13.8 billion years ago.  Although some Christians try to combine these two views: the Bible doesn’t describe an old universe.  A plain reading of the Bible tells us God made the universe in 6 days (Genesis 1), by His sovereign command – not relying on any preexisting matter (Hebrews 11:3), and by wisdom (Proverbs 3:19).

Furthermore, God ordered time on a weekly cycle of 6 days work and 1 day rest (Genesis 2:2; Exodus 20:11).  And, everything God made was very good (Genesis 1:31).

Scripture: Genesis 1:1 – 2:3
