August 14, 2016 “Virtual Reality – How do we escape?”

Virtual Reality: How do we escape?

  • Virtual Reality creates escapes, alternative realities. All moral options to rest and relax are good. “The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.”
  • God commands us and wants us to rest (Exodus 20:8-11,  Mark 6:31). A weekly day of rest is a gift from God (Mark 2:27).
  • Deep, care-free rest comes from embracing the LORD as your Shepherd, (Psalm 23). The LORD, the Self-Existent One is your Shepherd. He protects, provides, directs, leads and cares for you.

Scripture Reference: Psalm 23:1-6

August 7, 2016 “Identity – Do I Matter?”

Identity: How do you define and see yourself?

  • There are no ordinary people. All are patterned after God, in His image, wonderful and complex, (Genesis 1:27).
  • Answering without God, with perceived autonomy, any self-defined identity  is possible.
  • Answering with God – find your greatest measure of identity as a child of God,                      (Romans 8:23).
  • Filter all other measures of identity through obedience to Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

Scripture Reference: Matthew 12:46-50

July 31, 2016 “Doing Right – How?”

How can we have lasting moral & spiritual change in society?

  • Lasting change must be rooted in the heart. Beliefs must be owned, (2 Kings 23:25). Wanting to do something is always better than having to do something.
  • Until it’s rooted in the heart, do what you can. Set the standard/tone in your home, work and personal life. Be an example.
  • Affirm the good in society, celebrate godly values, but avoid political language. For example affirm the value of black people and fight prejudice, but avoid “Black Lives Matter” agendas.
  • Be Patient and make allowances for people, in a loving way. Seek peace, (Ephesians 4:1-3).

Scripture Reference: 2 Kings 23:1-7

July 24, 2016 “Accepting Others – Who’s Excluded?”

How do we respond to those who don’t follow the Bible’s standard of celibacy in singleness, and faithfulness in heterosexual marriage?

Respond in Grace and Truth, (John 1:17).

GRACE  (Lead with Grace)

  • As Ambassadors in a foreign land represent God with a good bedside manner, (2 Cor. 5:20).
  • Accept all people, particularly those you don’t approve of, (John 8:11).
  • Listen. Be slow to speak. Speak gently, (James 1:19, Prov. 15:1).
  • Look in the mirror. Examine your own heart first, (John 8:7, Mt. 7:3).
  • Get to know their story.
  • Love & care for them, (Luke 6:27-36).

  • Be grounded in the Bible.
  • Gently, briefly, share the truth, (Galatians 6:1).
