November 25, 2018 “Thankfulness Amid Evil”

Summary: How can you respond to difficulties in life?  1) Learn from them.  Maybe you will learn new information, but you can always learn obedience – moral muscle to do the right thing.  2) Lean into Christ.  In childlike dependence, trust him.  He’s walked in our shoes and He understands.  3) Long for heaven.  This is not our long-term home.  Suffering and difficulty can nurture in us a longing for heaven.  Remember, all the good that was, that is, or that will be comes from the hand of Almighty God.  As an act of faith, thank Him, even in difficult times.

Scripture Reading:  Hebrews 5: 7-10

November 18, 2018 “Thankfulness if God’s Idea”

Summary: Our founding fathers openly recognized that Almighty God is the beneficent Author, the source, of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.  That’s why we’re commanded and invited to give God thanks, praise, blessing, glory, joy and exaltation.  Thanksgiving is a huge part of the Bible’s message to us!  When we move toward God in thanks that reminds us 1) we are not alone in our circumstances.  We have a relationship with Almighty God.  2) Looking at life through God’s eyes helps us to be God-centered more than problem-centered.  You interpret your situation in life through God’s faithfulness.  3) Being thankful helps you defeat Satan’s temptation to doubt God’s goodness.  And 4), by depending on God, you are less demanding of others.  What you expect or fear from others diminishes.

Scripture Reading: Psalms 118: 27-29

Sermon Length: 20:43
