Jonah was angry at God for not punishing the cruel Assyrians. God gave the Assyrians in Nineveh a second chance to turn from evil and follow God, because God is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and loving (Jonah 3:10-4:2). The story of Jonah goes beyond teaching us to love our enemies, it emphasizes God’s character and power. Do we care about the people God cares about (Jonah 4:11)? Are we willing and able to share the love of God to them?
