Uplift Pine River Area Kids was created to help children living in rural poverty and who are food deprived. Uplift provides a bag of food to help supplement weekend meals and snacks.
Out of a K-12 school population of 1,037 students, 44-47% live in poverty. 563 students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school and many more could qualify. Uplift provides each participant a bag of simple-to-prepare, nonperishable food for weekend meals (when the students are not in school receiving supplemental meals).
In the 2017-2018 school year nearly 5,000 bags of food (about 15,000 pounds worth) were sent home to Pine River Area students. Around 135-145 kids were helped each week!
